The Diary, Part IV
The First Student
(A first class suite on an A380 over the Atlantic. The First Student writes his diary, reading softly aloud after every few lines.)
I got bumped up into first. So much space, so much privacy. There would be room enough for two…
In Buenos Aires we didn't have much time together. For whatever reason, we didn't even share a room. Well, maybe a little wink from her.
I think it was our least interesting trip so far. The first day was just creepy. The doctor looked at us as if we were subjects for his next awful experiment. The only interesting thing he had to say was about the care he took in vanishing. I made some notes about that. May be useful at some stage. Although I hope not, of course.
His buddies weren't much better. Maybe that's what exile does to one. They all live in the past. No comparison to the Industrialist. I mean that guy — he was adaptive, he had a clear plan.
Working with him is something I could imagine — he would be useful AND playable.
Our "esteemed lecturer" the next day was just a weirdo. I think he doesn't get it at all. He will be out soon. A short reign. With nothing but poverty to show for it. That there are so many economists who like him tells it all.
He will be just a footnote.
N gave him some flak. That was the best bit.
One thing I don't get — why the hairdos? I hope I won't be forced into one some day. Also, please, no weird moustache.
Then again, perhaps one of the smaller burdens that await us.
I will ask ChatGPT to render me as one of them. Have to think about the best prompt.
She was also there, completely devoted to N, as always. And no weird glances this time. She was completely in her role. Can I stop worrying? I don't think so. Not yet.
I must admit I'm still thinking about the girl. She even came to me in a dream. In a way that I cannot write down. It feels like a betrayal.
(The First Student gets up, leaves his suite for a moment, then returns.)
He is deep asleep. I was tempted to wake him.
In a couple of weeks, we will have exams. Apparently there will be two parts. The Instructor called it an exam in an almost classical mode.
